After a too-long absence, Patrick Crozier’s UK Transport blog has resumed updates; today’s subject is London’s new bendy-buses.

There have been some blogger spats lately over blog-rolling. Read MommaBear of Dodgeblogium‘s response to Dawn Olsen complaints about lack of blogrolling of sites like hers, and, for irony’s sake, Amish Tech Support‘s remarkably similar comments about a similar complaint from DodgeBlog itself. It all seems a bit childish to me.

At the end of the day, these arguments are about content, and how what’s valid content to one person is vapid noise to someone else. I would assume somebody with no interest in prog-rock, railways or RPGs will find no content to their interest on this site. Hopefully those of you with an interest in at least one of those subjects will find something of interest here.

“Bible Geek” of Cruciform Chronicle gives this site a mention, and describes my contribution to the Blogosphere as “a really different kind of blog”. I think I’ll take that as a compliment.

I’ve added a couple more sites to my Blogroll (the links on the left) RazorMouth is a multi-authored Christian website with some interesting things to say. Usual disclaimers apply, of course.

I’m still new enough to blogging that I don’t fully understand the ettiqutte of blogrollong yet. Andrew Ian Dodge of Dodgeblogium has called me a “Silly Sod” for not telling me I’d blogrolled him.

I’ve tended to blogroll those sites that I read regularly, regardless of whether they’ve blogrolled me or not. So far, the only blogrolls I appear in (to my knowledge) are Siflay Hraka, Stott’s Gamer’s Nook, Patrick Crozier’s UK Transport, the Game Wish blogroll (which appears on number of sites), and of course BlogCritics, although I’m not sure that really counts, since I’m a contributor to this site.

Using the wonderful new features of Moveable Type, I’ve set up the category archives to work as sub-blogs. Since there are a finite number of people that are interested in Trains, RPGs and Prog-Rock (anyone other than Scott?), you can now bookmark the following pages and get just the subjects you’re interested in!

After a couple of days’ work configuring things, I’ve just about got the Moveable Type version of this weblog up and running. I’ve converted all the old archives, and created a workable template for the index page, at least. The category pages and the archives aren’t properly formatted yet, but they’re there.

Thanks to Patrick Crozier for including me in his permalinks – I think this is my first one.

I’ve added a few more to the list of blogs here; the Catholic Goilard Blog, who’s author is currently writing a funk mass for Hammond B3 organ (Yay!), the Cthulhu-worshipping Dodgeblog (Iä F’tagn!), and it’s offshoot Darker than Dark, and of course, Eric Olsen’s Tres Producers, which is about anything and everything, but particularly music.

There are an awful lot of blogs out there. Sturgeon’s law seems to apply with a vengeance here; more that 90% of the blogs I’ve looked at at random are completely vapid nonsense, typically the product of a self-obsessed and semi-literate teenager. Look at the “recently published blogs” on the front page of www.blogger.com and click on a few to see what I mean.

There are some more worthwhile ones, of course. I’ve been reading a few. One is Bruce Baugh’s Writer of Fortune II (Electric Weblogaloo). Bruce is a professional writer of role-playing games, and his blog has recently covered topic including cryonics, internet file-sharing, and Hungarian prog-rock. Yes, Bruce, “De Produndis” by After Crying is a superb album, I’m listening to it now. Shows how unimaginitive and derivative most western European and American neo-prog bands are.

Another is Patrick Crozier’s UK Transport blog. I don’t share his Libertarian philosophy (do you believe in the total privatisation of the road network?), but his blog is well-written and thought provoking.

Then there’s Tim Deagan’s account of his experiences restoring a vintage Amercan fire engine.

Arrhan Empire Frontiers, a space piracy message game run on the Dreamlyrics message boards. Follow the adventures of the not-so-good ship Venus Blood, and her merry crew of cutthroats and brigands!

This is a long-running message board game, originating from the late lamented RPGAMES Forum on Compuserve. Originally GMed by Howard Miller, although I’ve co-GMed some threads in the past. I have now foolishly agreed to take over the game full-time.
