I thought NuWho started promisingly, but then soon ran out of ideas, and started repeating itself. Russell T.Davies did come over as something of a one-trick-pony, and what worked the first time became cliché rather rapidly.

As for your favourite Iain Banks, I'm not really surprised :)

Do you think the opening chapter of "Consider Phlebas" reads like a Traveller adventure run by a particularly sadistic GM?

I gave up on the new Dr. Who very quickly. For me, the Doctor just doesn't fall in love with his side-kick.

This was a tad awkward because the composer of the music is our vicar's son, and I felt I ought to be in a position to have a sensible conversation about it. However, I have a good excuse now: we gave up on having a TV some time ago. I don't miss it.

As for the works of Ian M Banks, I do enjoy his Culture stories, but is it really any surprise that may favourite is "The Player of Games"?

I'm a fan of Star Trek, mostly Deep Space Nine, but I take your point about 'Tech'. It's there in almost every episode and over 7 series it can get a bit tiresome. But to be fair, I get different things from Star Trek than say an Ian Banks novel.

I mean, I can't watch an episode of Star Trek episode more than once, yet I've read Use of Weapons twice and reckon it's time I pulled it off the shelf for another go.

As for an episode of Dr Who written by Ian Banks - not a bad idea. I reckon a 12 part mini-series would do justice to one of his books. It's probably too much of a gamble for anyone to back it though.

Which episodes to Stephen Moffatt write?

Russell T Davies produced both some of the most powerful drama *and* the most appalling cheese during his reign at Who. If I remember correctly he was responsible for the execrable "Love and Monsters".

I want to see a Dr Who episode written by Iain Banks. I know a few name SF authors wrote scripts for the original 60s Trek. I'm sure Banks must have been a Who fan when growing up, and The Affront (from his novel "Excession") would make great Dr Who monsters.
