Nothing will dissuade me from the notion that crowdsourcing is the future. Me, I love a bit of Ladytron, and I was happy to pay £15 up front for Helen Marnie's solo album. I understood it would take a while (a year or so as it turned out) but I loved getting the regular fanboy-squee-inducing updates - the various special editions, like gatefold vinyl, clothing and Helen' retro Mini (£5000)! Lack of money was the only thing that stopped me getting the blue bikini from the photoshoot. That and the wife vetoed it, to be fair.

It genuinely gives you a connection with the artist, and means they get to make more records without being dependent on The Man so much (beyond the initial push, but maybe even that will fade and die in the next few years). Next up is the new Young Knives album - very few indie bands of their standing get to the fourth album without being dropped, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I think it was Stewart Lee who said, if you can get two thousand people to give you ten pounds a year, that's a living wage. Hmmm ...
