According to National Rail and the Arriva Trains website, the current estimates are to reopen as far as Barmouth by mid-February, but the section north to Pwllheli will take longer to repair and is unlikely to reopen before May.

I see the problem with the north coast route. It only offers a single journey starting around 9am and nothing after. I put in Bangor to Milton Keynes and got several start times in the morning and a 4 to 5 hour journey. From MK there is an hourly bus to Oxford for local train connections. Still an awkward and arduous journey. But it may count as possible.

Transport Direct is showing the replacement bus times, and it's three and a half hours by bus from Machynlleth. The local bus services from Bangor via Caernarfon looks like a faster end-to-end journey.

Still an impossible return journey on the Sunday, which suggests looking into booking a B&B in the area and coming home on Monday.

Trying to sell my ticket, sadly, is also an option that I can't rule out at this stage. The bands I really want to support are Panic Room and Crimson Sky, and there will be other opportunties to see them.

It is a frustrating site for long journeys and multiple changes. Your backup plan in this instance are the regular bus services. Pwllheli to Porthmadog and change for Machynlleth. It should be a reasonable guide for replacement bus times.
