I’ve been a lot of gigs with ropey sound (what you get for being a Crewe Limelight veteran!), and it makes such a difference when the sound is good. Idea is not too loud, especially with female lead vocals, but good separation and sound balance.

Last night I was in a local gig in a small pub. They managed to get decent sound there, with clear vocals and everyone equally audible in the mix.
