I think I agree with you there. Both Whitesnakes (the British blues-metal one and the American hair-metal version) were a bit one-dimensional.

Northwinds is far more varied. Pity it’s become an obscure rarity; I’m not sure it’s even in print any more (though I do have it on CD).

Good point, I guess that’s what happens when I do things from memory

‘Northwinds’ is easily my favourite unPurple Coverdale, closely followed by the ‘Whitesnake’ album. Although I frequently enjoyed them live once everything became Whitesnake The Band, I felt the albums lacked a little subtlety

The album “Northwinds” containing “Queen of Hearts” wasn’t released under the Whitesname name, but as a David Coverdale solo album. Several members of what was to become Whitesnake played on it, though.
