As a quote from somebody who supposedly works in the music industry, that shows there’s a breathtaking level of incompetence within said industry. If he really can’t find a “music scene” at the moment, perhaps he needs to reconsider his career choice. I hear they’re looking for shelf stackers at Aldi.

Or because the music industry doesn’t want/know how to market them effectively. A lot of the bands you talk about on this blog are straddling at least two genres. They don’t generally fall into neat record-label-friendly categories for the marketing machine. They also often don’t produce radio-friendly length songs.

As an aside, I’ve wondered a few times what would happen if a major label re-released Porcupine Tree’s “Piano Lessons” but really got behind it and pushed the barrow as far as it would go. It’s got the makings of a chart-topping pop hit.
