Changing a singer always has a big effect on the sound of the band, and their interpretation of older material is often a challenge to both band and fans. Do they find a clone (Arnel Pineda in Journey), radically re-interpret (Ronnie Dio replacing Ozzy in Sabbath), or just drop the older songs altogether (Steve Hogarth replacing Fish in Marillion)?

Mostly Autumn seem to have done well with Olivia Sparnenn. She can do the older songs justice without radically altering them while making her mark on new material written for her voice.

The update from Prog was helpful, as I've a ticket for B'ham & I'd been worried about them cancelling the UK leg of the tour. However one of the reasons I'd been looking forward to the gig was that I'd not seen Anette & wanted to be able to compare it to how I remember seeing them with Tarja. Having seen Floor with ReVamp my impression is that she should do a great job of it. Her voice is a better fit for the older material, so it'll be interesting to see if they bring any more of it into the set of stay with the current album

You could have said the same about Mostly Autumn as a "laddish band", but the important different was that there was always more than one woman in the band, so the dynamic was different.

Interesting comments from Troy (who's pretty much a part of Nightwish these days)...

https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=454870414565567&id=255691701150107

The comments I'd make on this are that Nightwish seem to be a very "laddish" band - all "beer and getting on with the job" which makes it difficult for a lone woman to fit in. Tuomas comes across as a driven and slightly dark individual which is part of what makes him interesting as a musician. From a purely selfish view I'm happy because I've never liked Annette's style of singing (more character than clarity) and Floor's sound is absolutely right for Nightwish. I'm now pleased Olivia didn't get the job as she's doing a fantastic job where she is!
