Three words: “Chasing The Dragon”. If I had to try to ‘explain’ Epica to someone, that’s what I’d have them listen to. The ending is soooo metal that it’s almost impossible to headbang to!

Did I really just use the word “headbang” in a post? Sheesh, I’m starting to feel like I’ll never grow up…

BTW, currently listening to Epica’s “The Divine Conspiracy”, which I bought on your recommendation. Splendidly OTT stuff; when the two singers are credited not as “vocals” but “Mezzo Soprano” and “Grunts”, you know what you’re in for

Hope I don’t crush anyone’s spirits, here. Scores of my interviews (Deep Purple come to mind at this moment – almost 4:00 AM in New York) include confessions of what bands/artists really listen to at home. Who would’ve guessed?!!

Indeed G&S was the popular music of its day. The original audience came from the poorer members of society. It wasn’t until Sulivan managed to move it up market by playing it in his concerts that they started making any money.

Many of Sulivan’s other works have faded into obscurity. I can’t even remember the title of the grand opera he felt much more important, and I’ve never heard it.

On the other hand many people know the tune to “Onward Christain Soldiers” but have no idea who wrote it.

People may well still be listening to Morrissey in the year 2070. They may not be listening for the reasons he want, though.

I’ve always thought that G&S was the pop music of it’s day, and the words at least have stood the test of time. Somehow I don’t think people will still be listening to Morrissey in the year 2070.
