Hey Kids, Get Off My Lawn!

I’m not even remotely a fan of hip-hop or rap. But you don’t need to be to recognise this piece as hilariously ignorant pieces of music criticism I’ve read all year. Pro tip; if you want to make a serious critique of “modern music”, you do need to listen beyond top 40 radio if you want to be taken remotely seriously.

All I had to do was hover the mouse over the link and read the URL to know that wasn’t something I ever wanted to inflict on myself.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of rap from around the Sugar Hill Gang period to when Run DMC more or less decamped. I lost interest when too much of it became about sexual braggadocio, etc., but stuff like Stetasonic’s “Talkin’ All That Jazz” and Uptown’s “Dope on Plastic” are pretty indispensable.
