Pink Floyd are apparently due to play four songs in there set at the finale of Live 8 in July. Nick Mason, interviews on TV news last night, kept tight-lipped as to what those four songs might be.
With a 20-25 minute set, I don’t think we’ll be hearing any 20 minute epics like “Echoes” or “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. I would also be surprised to hear any material from the Syd Barrett era, or anything post-split. If they were to ask me, these are the four numbers to do:
- One of These Days
- Another Brick in the Wall, Part II
- Money
- Comfortably Numb
Anyone else got a better list?
Do you mean they won’t be playing Bike?
“I’ve got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It’s got a basket
A bell that rings and dings to make it look good.
I’d give it to you if I could
But I borrowed it.”
What a classic!
Wot, no “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict”?
I suspect that title might be a tad long for the texting generation in the audience
“Groovin wiv DJ Pict” might pass muster, I suppose…
I’m not sure whether the txtng gnratn can cope with anything with more than three chords in it
I know. Wnkrs
)))))
Just reading Dan Simmons’ “Olympos” so I better dash…
My dream list was this:
Echoes
Dogs (all verses)
SOYCD parts 1-9
Saucerful of Secrets
That’s good for, what, 80-90 minutes, and still is only four songs!
Expect Hey You, due to the lyrics, particularly the last line, which is appropriate to the day.
I’d also expect Money, of course. Probably something from Wish You Were Here, perhaps the title track, and something else from either Dark Side or The Wall.
Oh, also think of songs with both Roger and David on vocals.
They both sing of Comfortably Numb, for starters.
Getting Geldof to sing “In The Flesh” would be cool.
“There’s one in the spotlight, he don’t look right to me!” (When I saw The Wall live all those years ago, they put the spotlight on someone in the audience at that point!)
I remember that, I saw The Wall on Long Island in NY.
I’m going to go with fantasy for fun although this will obvious not occur. I think it would be the best fantasy set list:
First, I would have Bob Geldof contribute. The band would open with In the Flesh. Geldof would do a staging of the movie in the costume he wore in “the Wall” movie. It is a good introduction song to warm things up and audience would not be expecting it.
Second, all of the members have to have input. I would put what I think is the best Richard Wright song next…Us and Them. This would also take care of representing The Darkside of the Moon. It also themeticly goes well with the whole reason for the concert (poverty in Africa).
Third, Shine on You Crazy Diamond. They would have to have a giant diamond that is lowering from above during the song (of course). At the end of the song the diamond opens up. Syd Barrett is inside. This is an excellent song with great contribution from all band members. It would also take care of Wish You Were Here.
Fourth, the five members do Astronomy Domine. This and the above are obviously not going to happen, but if would be the coolest.
Fifth, the band does an encore song with David Gilmour and Roger Waters performing Comfortably Numb together. Something not seen since their very last performance in Earl’s Court in 1981. There is a small preconstructed wall where David plays his guitar solo on top of as he did so long ago. They could project the footage of the movie on the wall as well.
Sixth, If the crowd goes completely nuts… which they would. They band would be prepared to do a second encore of the short Pigs on the Wing Part II. This would also help to calm the crowd down as the song is very mellow.
Of course this would have all the bells and whistles. The lights, inflatable pig, school teacher, etc.
I really wish I lived in the UK and could see this historical event live. To all the idiots selling their tickets for 1000 British pounds plus, I pity you! First on all you are profiting from charity. Second, if the tickets were given away free and I lived in the UK with a pair, I would not give them up for 10 000 British Pounds!!
There you have it…
Shine ON…
PS.. In reality I can see a setlist being more like…
One of These Days
Money
Wish you Were Here
Comfortably Numb (in this chronological order)
Well since everyone in the world thinks that Animals is the best album ever made, they have to play someting from that!!
